SAF-A was honoured on Tuesday, 03 February 2026 to participate in an avocado industry Round-table Discussion hosted by Strathmore Agri-food Innovation Center (SAFIC) in Nairobi. This brought together key public- and private-sector stakeholders to deliberate on trade barriers, competitiveness, investment opportunities, and coordinated strategies to expand Kenya’s avocado exports to China.
“This was a practical opportunity to align all avocado industry experts on a shared, evidence-based view of the Kenya-China avocado export pathways. This platform helped to identify and prioritise the highest-impact constraints and enablers across trade, investments, partnerships and policy reforms. Comments Stephen Okeyo, who manages the Africa-China Ag value chain opportunities research project at SAF-A.
@Joy Wing Mau Group, a leading fresh produce enterprise with an omni-channel distribution network reaching over 20 million customers, spanning 10,000 supermarkets and 5 major e-commerce platforms, and serving an estimated 5 million avocado consumers across China’s Tier 1 cities were present to connect with exporters, including 3 of our Agri-Entrepreneurs whom are willing to explore this opportunity to export to China.
This forum secured a concrete way forward and understanding of the Chinese avocado market requirements that prepares exporters to supply quality produce to Chinese and cascade these benefits to smallholder producers.
