Sustainable Agriculture Foundation - Africa (SAF-A) is a non-profit legacy organization of the Syngenta Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture (SFSA). SAF-A will continue to improve farmer incomes and food security by providing smallholder-relevant innovations, helping farmers access these innovations through markets and addressing barriers in the agricultural agriculture value chain. Additionally, SAF-A will scale up the adoption of climate-smart agricultural practices and foster the empowerment of women, youth, and disadvantaged groups.

Message from Executive Director
"The Sustainable Agriculture Foundation Africa (SAF-A), now based in Kenya with an African mandate is up and running. We are proud to join the growing number of global south-based organizations that work where the communities live and work. Our true north remains working to improve farmer incomes and food security by providing smallholder-relevant innovations, helping farmers access these innovations through markets, and addressing barriers in the agriculture and food ecosystem. Additionally, SAF-A will scale up the adoption of climate-smart agricultural practices that foster the empowerment of women, youth, and disadvantaged groups, and ensure that smallholders, communities, and nature thrive together. Developing rural Agri Entrepreneurs (AEs) each serving between 150 and 200 farmers through a one-stop shop capable of offering all the agricultural needs of the farmers.
Climate Resilience and Inclusive Finance Solutions (CRIFS)
Designing, implementing, and scaling financial products and services that support smallholder farmers and agricultural communities in addressing the challenges posed by climate change.
Catalytic Intermediaries
The approach of scaling through catalytic market initiatives and entities that ensures sustainability of the initiatives.
Seed Systems Development
Catalyze access to quality, affordable, and climate-smart seed technologies for smallholder farmers through a unique variety commercialization approach with a goal towards better and resilient livelihoods using a multi-partnership approach.

The Gates Foundation Agriculture team has supported development of an online African Agriculture Adaptation Atlas, which is now publicly available with updates occurring throughout 2024 and 2025.
